I woke up this morning to headlines about Obama’s ‘health’ care reform. What a bunch of freaking crap. I don’t care what anyone says. There is no such thing as health care in this country. To keep labeling this ridiculous medical system as health care is far beyond absurd in my opinion.
Let’s call it what it is – sick care. You get sick. You go to the doctor. Your treated like a VIP if you have medical insurance. Your treated like a leaper if you don’t. No matter what you will be charged top dollar. That is what fuels the system. It is not about the health of our citizens. This is not rocket science people.
I just happen to believe that if you do not discuss the food supply in this country in conjunction with the ‘health’ care discussion than your not really talking about anything.
More than half of our country is obese. Yeah, we’ve inched over the fifty percent mark and the obese outweigh the fit. Pun absolutely intended.
So I try to do my part to stay educated about what foods are nutritious and not. I’m a fairly educated woman. I can read and write. When I think of the variety of people have in our country I am astounded that our government and the food production folks, we will call them Big Food (ode to Big Pharma – another day’s topic) believe the citizens can navigate through this mess.
You shouldn’t have to go to the market or restaurant and decide what is poison and what is not. And essentially that is what these people are asking us to do for ourselves. Everything is a commodity in this country. Even the food supply and health of their citizens. It’s a crying shame.
Oh, and have you seen these down right stupid commercials that the high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) people are running? Wow. One mom says to another mom ‘oh don’t give that to the children it has high fructose corn syrup in it’ or something like that…the other mom (why did the mom defending this junk have to be black?) replies in a near whisper ‘what have you heard about HFCS, that it just like sugar (which is poison too in it’s refined states) and that it’s okay in moderation’ again, I’m paraphrasing. You get the deal. ANSWER ME THIS: HOW DO YOU CONSUME SOMETHING IN MODERATION THAT IS IN DAMN NEAR EVERY PACKAGED GOOD ON THE MARKET??? HOW?
I say boycott packaged foods that include artificial colors & flavors, preservatives, refined sugar/sweeteners and dyes. Most say then what will we eat. Fresh food A-hole. What we ate before there was a such thing as warehouses, factories, and shipping. Local grown, fresh foods. It’s more expensive they will say. No it’s not. You think you can buy the wack shit and the good shit. I say leave all that wack shit behind.
The problem is systematic. However, I think we should understand that the consumer is the wind beneath the wings of all product driven companies. If we stop buying the market will change. They will have no choice.
Shout out to all the package goods companies who produce products that work with the human body. The choices seem to be growing. If we stop eating such large quantities our food expenses will go down. Sometimes you have to choose what is affordable based on factors other than monetary.
I have more to say but not today.
