Ledisi‘s last album is everything and then some. Released in September 2017, it has been in heavy rotation on my playlist. It is one of those album you can play from beginning to end without skipping a song. She talks about social tensions, love and resilience.

When I look back at this time in my life, years from now, this will be an album that I will think of, a soundtrack to my memories.

It resonates with me because the messages in the lyrics are timely, “Shot Down” spotlights the aggression towards blacks in American by brutal police.

“Just let love in…why don’t you let love rule, #LETLOVERULE” the bongo beats in the title track compliment her vocals perfectly.

Guest appearance on interludes from Iyanla Vanzant and Soledad O’Brian contribute to the motivating vibes.

“Add to Me”, the first release reminds brothers they need to bring value on every level. “Show me what it is you feel for me. I’m just saying, can you handle me?”

She really gets deep with the song “Forgiveness”, the metaphors and plays on words over the guitar riffs are nothing short of magical.

Other songs including “Here”, “High” and “All The Way” tackle relationship challenges. I will say it again, every song on the album is fire.

I have been listening to this album for months and every time I listen to it I get lost in it. These songs be running through my mind. I would rather listen to her than write about her. You need it in your life, listen and listen again. It is groovin.
